The Great Smoky Mountains provide some of the most beautiful scenery in the United States. One of the best ways to experience this area is on horseback. Smoky Mountain horseback riding allows you to get lots of fresh air and see the world around you, much the way people did centuries ago. Here are six steps for planning the perfect horseback riding adventure at Five Oaks Riding Stables:
1. Choose the Right Season for Your Trail Ride
Horseback riding is a great activity any time of the year, but each season offers something special. During autumn, guests can admire the incredible fall foliage as they explore our 70 acre nature park. Horseback riding in the winter is another great option. With refreshingly cool temperatures and serene beauty, the winter months are ideal for a peaceful trail ride. Spring brings sunny skies and gorgeous wildflowers, and summer brings longer hours and warm weather. There is really no bad time for a visit to Five Oaks!
2. Decide Who to Bring Horseback Riding
Horseback riding is a fun and exciting activity for reasonably healthy people of all ages. This is a great opportunity for both experienced riders and people who want to learn the basics of horseback riding. If you are visiting the area with your family, friends, or coworkers, you can bring a group to share the experience. Our guides are great with kids!
Our six mile trail will take you through a beautiful piece of east Tennessee takes about an hour. Our horses are safe, our guides are experienced and we can accommodate from 3year old tots to “90 something” grandparents. If you’re over 100 years old and still want to hit the trails we would love to have you along as well! We take it slow and easy so relax and ride along with us.
4. Inquire About Specials and Combo Packages
Five Oaks offers various special deals throughout the year. If you are planning a Smoky Mountain horseback riding adventure, you should check our Pigeon Forge Horseback Riding Specials page, sign up for our email newsletter, or give us a call. We may be offering a seasonal special during the time of your visit.
Remember, Five Oaks is also home to an amazing zipline course and an all new ropes course. Be sure to ask about our combo deals so you can have a full day of outdoor fun for one low price!
5. Dress For the Occasion
Five Oaks will provide you with all of the riding gear you need. You should, however, come prepared for a safe and comfortable horseback riding experience. Riding boots are always recommended, but at the very least you should have comfortable and sturdy shoes that fit well. Open toed shoes should never be worn when riding. Shoes or boots with at least a one inch heel are best. Comfortable jeans or other long pants should be worn. Dressing in layers will keep you warm in case it gets chilly.
The trails you will be on are in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains and include relics of the area’s history, such as abandoned moonshine stills. The Smokies are home to some of the most diverse wildlife in the country, so be sure to keep an eye out for white tailed deer, turkeys, and other local critters. Guests will also enjoy spectacular views of Mount LeConte, streams, and so much more.
