Whether a seasoned cowboy or first-time rider, Five Oaks’ trail rides are filled with lovely views and enjoyable experiences. There are plenty of things to know before you saddle up for the first time, so Five Oaks Riding Stables has simple tips to live a little and be prepared while Gatlinburg horseback riding.

1. Be Calm and Confident

A key tip to having a comfortable ride is to relax, and move your body with the horse. Tensing up will make you bounce, which will make you uncomfortable during the ride and sore after. Our main goals are for our riders to have fun and be safe, which is why we’re the premier Gatlinburg horseback riding stable.

Five Oaks has been named a top attraction by TripAdvisor because of our safety measures, knowledgeable guides and historical trails. Many of our groups have said they felt more comfortable and confident about the ride because they had heard about our five star reputation.

Though feeling confident is important, staying calm can help you and your horse having a wonderful ride as well. We ask that riders try to keep their backs straight without slouching. This will help maintain control and prevent slipping out of the saddle.

2. Rein It In

To stop and guide the horse, the reins are connected to a bit, so it’s important to be kind to the horse by gently holding the reins and pulling too tight. Riders should hold the reins but never wrap the slack of the rope around a hand or wrist.

3. Follow the Leader

Five Oaks’ Gatlinburg horseback riding offers  a wonderful, six mile tour that lasts about an hour. Our guides will stay with your group during the entire ride helping you stay safe while pointing out wildlife and unique features of the Smokies.

Five Oaks’ guides are some of the most knowledgeable and talented riders around, so you don’t have to worry about anything while on the trail. They’ll make sure all your equipment is properly fitted, buckle and aligned before leading the group to a trail on our 70 acre nature park. They’ll give instructions and information throughout the tour to keep you and the horses safe, so be sure to pay attention along the way.
