Two people riding horses through the woodsRiding a horse for the first time is an unforgettable experience. As you peacefully trot through scenic trails, you will have a totally new vantage point to take in the natural beauty around you. Five Oaks Riding Stables, the number one destination for Gatlinburg horseback riding, has 60 horses onsite who are experienced, reliable and friendly. If you want to read up on horseback riding before you try it, we have included some great advice for finding your balance.

The key to feeling balanced while horseback riding is posture. When riding, you should look straight forward and keep your back straight. Your head weighs about ten pounds, so be sure to keep it up while riding!  In order to keep your foot from sliding around, only put about a third of your boot in the stirrup and keep your heels slightly lowered. Also, don’t let your legs go too far forward as if you are sitting in a chair; this “chair sitting” is not conducive to proper balance. Make sure that your hips, heels, and shoulders are all aligned.

Our Gatlinburg horseback riding staff are experts at helping first time riders get comfortable on their horses before they hit the trails. Five Oaks Riding Stables has 27 years of experience taking beginner and experienced riders through their stunning 70 acre nature park. Our picturesque trails feature views of Mount Leconte, mountain streams, lakes and so much more. Visit our Contact page to send us an email or call our reservationists at (888) 353-4986. We look forward to hearing from you!
