One of the highlights for the team at Five Oaks Riding Stables is taking kids on their first trail ride. There is nothing like seeing the pure excitement on a child’s face when they realize that they are riding a horse all by themselves! To help make sure that your kids have the best time possible when they visit our Pigeon Forge horseback riding stables, we’ve put together some great tips for children hitting the trails for the first time.
1. Spend some time getting to know your horse.
Some kids are so excited about horseback riding for the first time that they just can’t wait to jump in the saddle. While we always love enthusiastic guests, it’s a good idea to take some time to get to know your horse first! Spending a few minutes petting your horse and learning about his name and personality is the perfect way for your child to build trust with his or her new four legged pal. Check out our blog on How to Make Friends With a Horse, for some tips on meeting your trusty steed for the first time.
2. If you have questions, ask!
Our trail guides are great with kids, and they always try to put their instructions in the plainest, simplest language. However, if your child doesn’t understand something, encourage them to speak up. We are always happy to answer any and all questions you or your kid might have. There is no such thing as a dumb question, so you should always feel free to ask away! Check out what former guests have said about our guides on our official TripAdvisor page.
3. Dress appropriately.
It is important that your children are properly dressed for their first trail ride. We recommend wearing tracksuit bottoms, jeggings, or other pants that don’t have a heavy seam. Also, try to have your kids wear boots with a slight heel in them to make it easier for them to get in and out of the stirrups. If you have any questions about what to wear, feel free to call and ask.
We have the sweetest, most good natured horses in the area, and they just can’t wait to meet your family! To book a trail ride at our Pigeon Forge horseback riding stables, visit our Reservations page or give us a call at (888) 353-4986.
